The CRSP®/ Compustat® Merged Database (CCM) brings the academic market a unified database, providing a map between CRSP* US stock data and select Compustat data files.
Through the CRSP/Compustat merged database with CRSP Link®, CRSP maps their US stock data with Compustat’s fundamental data, using identifiers unique to each. These identifiers permit a seamless time-series analysis of companies and securities, regardless of ticker or CUSIP changes. This method of matching the databases is much more accurate than relying on matches by CUSIP alone, because CUSIP codes change over time.

More links over time – Using CRSP Link, CRSP’s permanent, unique identifiers, PERMNO® (permanent issue identification number) and PERMCO® (permanent company identification number), are paired with Compustat’s permanent, unique company identifiers, GVKEY and IID. In use at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business since 1990, CRSP Link is continuously updated to improve both the quantity and quality of matches. It also contains historical link history records that support complex merger and acquisition transactions.
Ease of access – CRSP reformats the Compustat data files into a single database integrating CRSP and Compustat via CRSP Link data. GVKEY, PERMNO or PERMCO can all be used to access the Compustat or CRSP data. This eliminates the task of loading and integrating multiple Compustat back data and current files.
No programming required – Retrieve CRSP and Compustat using tools in CRSPSift for Windows or the CRSPAccess utilities on non-Windows platforms, Linux and Solaris. The CCM Database is also available through the WRDS (Wharton Research Data Services) platform.
Simultaneous comparisons – With this tool, you can download both data sets into any spreadsheet for side-by-side comparisons.
The CRSP/Compustat Merged Database is updated annually or quarterly for university clients. CRSP Link, the primary component of the CCM database, maps the annual and quarterly Compustat data with the CRSP monthly stock data product. The link is packaged with the Compustat data in CRSPAccess format and can be used with CRSP stock data subscriptions.
